This pair is cut shorter than our standard length, with a rounded section near the top for a smaller hand to hold. We select light, straight-grain hinoki for the shorter cut.

Shaping the grip

A rounded section is carved near the top for smaller hands.

Engraving the name

The child's name is carved into the shaft.

Sealing and pouching

A thin lacquer coat is applied, then the pair is placed in its pouch.
